Dear Parent and Guardian;

As you may already know, an outbreak of swine flu has caused the U.S. to issue a public health emergency. Although we do not have any known cases in Lee County School System, we are doing everything possible to protect the health of our students and limit the spread of swine flu.

It is very important to practice good protective measures at home by implementing the following procedures:

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a sleeve or tissue, not your bare hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Hand sanitizers are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, eyes, or nose with your hands.
  • Stay at least six feet away from anyone who is sick
  • Clean and disinfect any contaminated surface (i.e. door knobs, tables, play areas, shared toys and items)
  • Replace toothbrushes of anyone who is sick. Rinse others with very warm water and allow it to dry.
  • Update stockpiles of food, water and medications.

Persons in your family with flu-like symptoms should stay home from work or school until they are fever free and without symptoms for 24 hours. Limit contact with others to avoid infecting them. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, should seek immediate health care and treatment.

Attached is some information about the flu: The Flu Guide for Parents and Pandemic Influenza Flu Planning Checklist brochure.

The health and well-being of our students is our top priority and we are doing everything possible to address the situation. Please feel free to contact your school nurse if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely yours,

Brenda Lindahl RN
